People in general (notiice how I'm not writing "and women in particualr" <VBG>) will always be drawn more to something they can't have, or something they don't understand. It's the very unattainability of the object that makes it all the more appealing.
And once again, generally speaking, women will ultimately be the side who defines whether a relationship begins or not - they are the courted party and decide whether to reciprocate or not.

A nice guy will be attentive and complacent - and basically comes off as easily attainable, whereas a "bad boy" will be indifferent and possibly rude. This will make him seem unattainable, and in addition will propogate the perception that he must know something others don't in order for him to allow himself to act in such a manner. Both these things are what ultimately make him attractive.

In addition, there's a trend of thought among the female persuasion that believes character flaws can be fixed, and if such a thing is accomplished then it makesl the whole experience more worthwhile. In addition it's something to gloat about... (e.g. "before he met me, he used to eat with his hands wearing a lobster bib!") <S>

Is that the answer you were looking for? <VBG>

Nicely done OK let me ask you another question - Why all the wigs (in my city at least) are of straight hair?

Tal: why oh why did George Lucas give Star Wars Episode II such a bad bad name?
Why?!

Nava: Straight hair is easier to maintain than curly hair, plus it's probably easier to make into wigs - thereby making those wigs cheaper to buy.

Len: Lucas ran out of good ideas after Ep6 - hence the infamous JarJar incident of Ep 1... <VBG>

Tal:
Jar Jar binks is a C3P0 knockoff. If anything, he's actually less annoying and incompetent than the droid.

Just to make you look stuff up:
Do you know where the term "Rule of thumb" came from, yet?

Dax: But still not original - further proving my point about Lucas running out of ideas... <S>
Besides -didn't he do a cameo in Ep1?

As for Rule of Thumb - read this - you'll find it pretty interesting:

There are also a bunch of other links about this, but I'm fairly certain that they'll just repeat this discussion ad nauseum... <S>

martyn: From an old SNL (that is, back when it was funny): If Helen Keller falls in the forest, does she make a sound?

Teller: OK, here's something for you to look up. If you watch old movies, you'll notice that the credits are very short, maybe one or at most two screens of actors and usually only one screen of "others". Now-a-days, the credits are almost as long as the movie , especially for effects-laden movies. When did this change and why?
