Survivor of the Buffy/Angel Comedy Eps: Which Ep Will Be the Ultimate Survivor?

The votes have been tallied, the results are in:

Tabula Rasa 4 votes

Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered 7 votes

So, BB&B is outta here, leaving us with our final 2:

1. Tabula Rasa
2. Doppelgangland

Remember, this time, you're voting for which ep you want to win, not which one to vote out. So if you want Doppelgangland to win, vote for it. And that's my vote.

Ok, the final round has begun. May the voting commence!

Honestly, neither of them are that funny but Doppelgangland for the win.

I'm glad these 2 made it to the finale. I love them both, even after repeated viewing. But I must admit TR loses just a bit of fun after each viewing, so i'll go for

Doppelgangland

I really wanted BBB to win, but as a second best I'll give Dopplegangland the win.

That is absolutely a great scene.

But it just doesn't beat Xander shaking the 'broken' cross

And the Ultimate Survivor is... Doppelgangland!

Here's how the voting broke down:

Tabula Rasa 4 votes

Doppelgangland 6 votes

I'm pretty happy with that result. I'm actually pleasantly surprised Tabula Rasa was as close as it was. I thought it would get trounced in the final here. Anyway, new Survivor game will be up shortly.

Yep, that hardly ever happens to me too. Unless it's a fave ep survivor. Cause we *all* love Passion

Hmm... Doppelgangland is one of my favorites, too. But: In my opinion it is not really a comedy-Ep!?

Siri please please explain to me the obsession of Passion - what am I missing? Decent but best of all time? What is it that you love about it so much? I'll have to watch it again

You can't explain the greatness of an ep to someone who doesn't get it.
And i am definately not the only one, seeing how Passion always ends up in the top 5 (or even top 3) of most Survivors/worldcups/end-of-season-votings.

I agree with Siri, the episode is pure f**king brilliance. I think its kind of weird that the best episode of Buffy/Angel was NOT written by Joss.

It's definitely a top 10 ep for me, but there are at least 5 others that I like better. (Becoming, Restless, The Wish, IOHEFY, WSWB, Innocence to name a few)

I read somewhere that, while Ty King gets the writing credit, Joss pretty much rewrote his effort. It always surprised me that one of the best eps is by a writer who didn't stay past S2, so it makes sense that Joss did a ghost job on it.

edit: s_morgana, where would you put Passion in your list of best eps?

That is one of the eps that makes me wonder so hard what it exactly means to have your name on it as a writer. How much of it is team-effort (at least the breaking of the story, so the major happenings) and how much is rewritten later by someone else?!

I'm no expert, but what I remember reading is...

They break it as a team, but then write it individually unless there are multiple writers credited. However, when Joss reviews the finished ep, he'll either rewrite scenes or tell them to make some changes with suggestions. I'm not sure how he decides to do it himself or gives it back to the writer, but i suspect time may play a part in it. I know I've read that he basically redid BB&B, Passion and IWRY and I'm sure there were others.

If more than one writer is credited for the ep, they usually divide it up by act. I think Checkpoint was co-written by Jane and Doug and you can really tell who did what. I bet she did the part where the CoW is interviewing the scoobies...that's just classic Jane there. The exception to this rule is Flooded. Jane said on the Succubus Club that she did a draft, gave it to Doug Petry to edit which meant that he rewrote it his way and gave it back to her for editing. Then she rewrote it...and back and forth like that. She said it was a terrible way to write an episode because everyone wants there stuff in there.

I know how that goes, but i'd like to see an ep or two explained that way.

* what was decided in the breaking?
* what did the credited writer do exactly?
* who suggested what changes?

lol...I figured I was babbling about stuff you already knew...

I wish they'd do a behind the scenes show. A "From breaking to post-production" type thing and make it a 2 hour jobby so that we can really get a feel for what happens.

Apparently, they're going to do something like that for Firefly, if it hangs around that long

I want a Buffy-Workshop!
