Question OT: Music Tastes

We all like music of some kind. I was just wondering what everyone's fav music was, cause of new posters and all, they do say you can tell a personality from the music a person listens to.

Personally my favourite at the minute is Marilyn Manson, I also like Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Offspring, Green Day.

I can lissen to a bit of Pop, and very little rap/hip-hop...and that's a very small bit.

I like almost every other type of music.

Though i love rock music new and old.

Hee hee... I love these threads.

My favorite band is Garbage. Actually my username goes along with my love of Garbage.

I also love Our Lady Peace, The Ataris, Third Eye Blind, The Julianna Theory, and a few others.

I was just thinking about asking this.

A lot of the music I listen to is Buffy related, one way or another. (I remember endless hours with Napster and the Buffy Music website).

Aside from that...dunno. It's sort of eclectic. I like Queen, though.

I like the odd pop song, quite a lot of classical and so on. But my main interest, musically is goth (Lacuna Coil, Sisters of Mercy, Joy Division, The Cure, Fields of the Nephilim, London After Midnight, etc.), industrial (Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein) , black metal (Dimmu Borgir, The Kovenant, some Cradle of Filth) and so on. I also like some Marilyn Manson, who doesn't really fit into any of the genres that well (Possibly industrial. Anyone saying goth will be shot ).

I also like old school rock (Like Iron Maiden) and some nu-metal (Papa Roach, Korn, Disturbed), as well as bands that don't fit well into a given genre (Fear Factory, My Ruin).

[plug]
My favourite band is Kill 2 This, who I highly recommend (I actually went to Alton Towers with them and some other fans...).

They're sort of nu-metally but not quite.
They have 3 albums (Another Cross 2 Bare, Deviate and Trinity). Go and buy them. Now. Please?

Long-time members will recognize my response to this question:
Episode: Old Time Rock And Roll by Bob Seegar

Just take those old records off the shelf
I'll sit and listen to 'em by myself
Today's music aln 't got the same soul
I like that old time rock 'n' roll
Don't try to take me to a disco
You'll never even get me out on the
In ten minutes I'll be late for the door
I like that old time rock'n' roll

Still like that old time rock'n' roll
That kind of music just soothes the soul
I reminisce about the days of old
With that old time rock 'n' roll
Won't go to hear them play a tango
I'd rather hear some blues or funky old soul
There's only sure way to get me to go
Start playing old time rock 'n' roll
Call me a relic, call me what you will
Say I'm old-fashioned, say I'm over the hill
Today' music ain't got the same soul
I like that old time rock 'n' roll

Still like that old time rock'n' roll
That kind of music just soothes the soul
I reminisce about the days of old
With that old time rock 'n' roll

Episode: The Last American Boy Scout

Milo: You think you are so f**king cool, don't you? You think you are so f**king cool. But just once, I would like to hear you scream in pain...
Joe Hallenbeck/The Senior: Play some rap music.

I like rock music best, but I can listen to nearly everything. Garbage is one of my favourite bands, along with Bon Jovi and some others. I also like 70s and 80s rock a lot . Herbert Groenemeyer is a German artist I like very much, but he is only interesting to German speaking people, I guess .
I just hate most of the current hip-hop and stuff, plus German "Volksmusik" (I guess "people's music in English, since folk is a completely different style, but that term would be an insult to people).

I've got very varied tastes in music. I just like the goofd songs

And it depends on the mood I'm on. If depressed, soft crap, pissed off, loud stuff, normal, mixture, weird mood, probably a movie score.

So:
movies scores (John Williams; Hans Zimmer)
loudish stuff (rammstein, rob zombie, linkin park)
rapish type stuff (eminem)
soft ass crap (dido and various)

My favourite band atm is probably Radiohead - I've really been getting into them lately. I'm also a pretty big fan of Weezer and Smashing Pumpkins - I've been listening to quite a lot of Tool and A Perfect Circle lately, too. A lotta different stuff.

Everything from opera (not too heavy) to hard core heavy metal, with the exception of
  • 1. Rap;

    2. Hard core techno and dance; and

    3. Generally anything from the manufacured band ilk.
I like a good sound and good lyrics, I'm not fussy. I tend to hate remakes (my opinion is that it is a classic for a reason) or songs that so obviously borrow another band's sound (eg Ever noticed how much "Superfreak" and Hammer's You Can't Touch This sound alike? Apart from the rap, of course ).

I like all sorts, but basically enjoy anything with a bit of an edge or a good guitar riff.

Nat: umm, you know MC Hammer sampled the background track to Can't touch this from Rick James on purpose - right? <S>
Same thing with Vanilla Ice and Queen's and David Bowie's Under Pressure track.

My point is, unoriginality is rife in the music world. What exactly are we paying them for?!

I listen to a pretty wide range of stuff but my 'root's were always in rock/goth music... Sisters of Mercy, Mission, Cassandra Complex, Altered States, The Nephilim, March Violets etc...

Now i pick a lot of stuff up from TV shows rather than radio so a lot of LA based indie/rock

My last few buys though were:

Moorcheeba (who I liked pre-Buffy )
Faithless
Fun Loving Criminals
Folk Implosion
Moby

So I must have mellowed a bit lately

I like mostly mainstream stuff, r&b, little rock, pop, you know, radio stuff - J.Lo, Miss Jackson, Destiny's Child.

Black Magic,

Slow down there horsey! I never said I was an Nsync fan. I'm just surprised no one is. Not even any NKOTB fans (the original purveyors of evil). Or even the bigger names like Michael Jackson or Madonna. What about yourself? I always wanted to know are Australians music patriotic? I bet you support Savage Garden and all the other lesser known groups. Hey, aren't Eiffel 65 Australian? Maybe Italian? Little help here.

THP,

Do you like the new Morcheeba stuff? I haven't been able to find their new album in the stores and I'm afraid it will cost far too much to get it.

#1: wow, i can't believe i found someone else who likes/heard of our lady peace. my friend and i were joking about how much airplay they get on much music up in canada, but he really likes them and he's been trying to get a band of people together to go see them play at a club, but no one else has heard of them.

as for my musical tastes, it used to be only rap, hip hop, r&b, but it has since expanded to more rock and of course i can't escape from pop.

some artists featured in my latest batch of mix cds: missy elliot, ja rule, lifehouse, american hi-fi, a new found glory, eden's crush, destiny's child, craig david, papa roach, s club 7

artists whose albums i'm anticipating: aaliyah, garbage, usher, timbaland & magoo

Jack: Yup, definitely music patriotic - but not really Savage Garden, more Silverchair, Powderfinger, etc. Heard of 'em? If not, they're worth a listen.
